Ecology, evolution and impacts of alien invasive plants

Units : Plant Ecology and Biogeochemistry | ULB159

Description :

We investigate the impacts of alien invasive plant species on ecosystem functioning. This comprises alterations of nutrient
availability in the soil and mineral nutrient fluxes in the soil-plant system. Impacts on soil fauna are also being studied. Fallopia
japonica, Senecio inaequidens and Solidago gigantea are our principal study cases. We also examine variation of functional traits
correlated to invasiveness in the complex of Fallopia japonica - F. sachalinensis and their hybrid F. xbohemica.
