The research activities of the 4MAT Department focus on inorganic materials. They cover the entire life-cycle of materials from their synthesis and
processing to the optimal management of their end of life going through the optimization of their (micro)structures for a given application. This approach is
mainly driven by the scarcity of resources that makes sustainable development a priority.

The research topics are both of fundamental and industrial interests. This implies a large variety of research funding schemes going from European and
national projects to direct funding from industrial partners.
