Fundamental problems in complex systems research

Units : Center for Nonlinear Phenomena and Complex Systems | ULB164

Description :

Topics of current interest include symbolic dynamics, complex systems as information generators or information processors and a
dynamical approach to information theory incorporating the role of of nonequilibrium constraints. This approach is pursued both in
macroscopic-level dissipative systems giving rise to a multiplicity of states and to chaotic dynamics, as well as at the molecular
level in connection with copolymerisation processes with or without template. Our studies provide new insights on
evolution-related problems in the light of the fundamental laws of nature. Other aspects of complex systems studied are the probabilistic
properties of recurrent and extreme events in deterministic dynamical systems and their comparison with the predictions of the
classical statistical approach.
