Ex vivo amplification and infusion in the context of autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Immunomodulatory properties and pro-hematopoietic activities of mesenchymal stromal cells in experimental transplantation. Functions of mesenchymal stromal cells and interactions with normal and pathologic cells. Influence of local environment (hypoxia, inflammation, infection) on the migration, differentiation, immunomodulation and pro-hematopoietic activity of MSC. Effect of Toll-like receptor triggering on MSC functions. Characterization of MSC obtained from normal and leukemic bone marrow. Functional characterization of mesenchymal stem cells isolated from distinct tissue sources (bone marrow, umbilical cord and adipose tissue) for their use in cell therapy.
