Politics and Social relief in Iran (POLSI)

(IF@COFUND Marie Curie-ULB)

Unité : Recherche et Études en Politique Internationale | ULB704

Description :

In this project, far from considering the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) as an exceptional case that should be mainly analyzed
through the lens of Islam or authoritarianism, I will investigate Iranian politics through the socio-historical analysis of the
social relief (SR) sector. Drawing on a sociohistorical study of SR and on an ethnography of encounters between those who give and
those who receive, POLSI aims to chart the Iranian SR sector as well as to unearth everyday politics in the Iranian context. POLSI
shows how, in a global context of neoliberalism and social and financial crisis, it's crucial to explore politics via the
socio-history of the SR sector. Building on a fundamentally interdisciplinary approach of politics it asks: what do the relationships and
conflicts between the multiplicity of actors who intersect in the SR political space say about the transformations of social and
political justice issues in the IRI since 1979?
